Composites are used in numerous industries, but often the methodologies for manufacturing them share many similarities. Matrix is heavily involved in carbon fiber and fiberglass manufacturing by supporting the layup tooling and patterns as well as composites machining.
Patterns, Tooling, and Molds
We work with many different materials to provide the tools, patterns, bucks, plugs or any of the other names used to refer to the forms used for composite layup tooling. Working in various materials we produce highly accurate forming plugs and patterns to achieve the required geometry of the products.
Common tooling and pattern materials include:
- Tooling board and foams
- Aluminum
- MDF
- Plastics and other machinable media.
Composites Machining
Matrix provides machining and trimming services for composite parts. Whether billet carbon or fiberglass, flat or formed panels, or honeycomb or foamcore sandwich panels, we provide trimming and machining of parts to achieve their final geometry.
Some common composites we trim include:
- Billet carbon fiber
- Fiberglass and G10
- Kevlar
- Graphite
- Other miscellaneous fiber reinforced polymers and plastics
